Check out all of my Homemade Dog Treats!
Guys, meet Toby. Toby is my sweet little morkie who deserves to eat homemade dog treats all day, every day. Of all of the dog treat recipes that I’ve made him over the years, (including homemade dog cake), these might be his all-time favorite, because they’re packed with so many of his favorite things.
My inspiration for these began the other day when I dropped a big ol’ strawberry on the floor. Since Toby is my personal robotic vacuum, he polished that sucker up before I could even attempt to bend down and pick it up.
I panicked and grabbed my phone for what was probably my 50th random Google search that day:
Can Dogs Eat Strawberries?
Yes. Dogs can absolutely eat strawberries. They have lots of vitamins and minerals that are actually very good for dogs, but they’re also sweet, and should be served to dogs and puppies in moderation to prevent stomach aches.
Best Kind of Peanut Butter for Dogs
- All-natural peanut butter without added salt or sugar is best for dogs.
- Do not use light or sugar-free peanut butter, as those may have artificial sweeteners (such as xylitol) which is toxic to dogs.
- I like to use Teddy Smooth All-Natural Peanut Butter, which can also commonly be found in grocery stores.
Flour Alternatives for Dog Treats:
Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum
Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato
Storage
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Or freeze for up to 3 months, removing them as you need them and letting them come to room temperature.
The Best Dog Treat Molds
These dog treat molds hold the shape perfectly, and makes the process even faster because you don’t have to roll out the mixture and cut shapes, (although you could)!
These are the same molds used for this recipe!
Storing Homemade Dog Treats

Dog Treats as Gifts:
- These treats make fantastic gift ideas! These are the dog treat molds that I used in this recipe.
- These are even smaller treat molds and are perfect for giving in these little canisters!
- Treat-making and gift-giving is also a great activity for little ones, (with your assistance of course!)

My huskys loved them! Thank you.
These are so easy to make. My dog and all her friends love them. I am pretty much mauled by any dog that I have given these treats to in my apartment complex. And now pet owners are asking me to make them for there dogs because they either don’t know how or don’t have time. So they are that good.
That’s so cool Michelle! Sounds like you’re popular with the pups at the apartment 😂! Thanks so much for the great review!
Hi. My girl prefers softer treats. Can I do anything for them to come out soft instead of like a cookie?
Thanks, Sue
Hi Sue, I am not quite sure but perhaps you could try adding a little bit more strawberries and/or banana to soften them up a bit more! 🙂
I made these today, rolled them out, cut them out, put them in the oven and they puffed up.
Second batch I rolled out thinner and they still puffed up. They look like a pizza pocket lol
Any idea why they would do that?
TIA.
Hi Laurie! Honestly I can’t even image what could possibly cause that to happen! That is so strange! I know that I used molds when I made these but that shouldn’t matter. 🤔
Our pup loved these!
WOOO! So happy to hear that Kristina, thank you so much for letting me know how it came out!!
How long will they last in the fridge?
I’d say at least 6 days! 🙂
Are these treats hard or soft? My dog is older and needs soft treats.
They’re soft when they come out of the oven but they do harden up (similar to cookies), after they’ve cooled.
Made these for my Maddi and she fell in LOVE!! I added a piinch of cinnamon on top and she went nuts for them. Thanks a ton for the idea! Oh I did leave out the peanut butter altogether and used some frozen fresh strawberries I had saved for one of my smoothies that I set at room temp for a bit to soften to dice up.
Hey Mischa! I am so happy to hear that this worked out well for you! These are my dog’s absolute favorite! 🙂
My dog love it
I’m so happy to hear that! Thanks so much for the review!
How thick should you roll the dough out to?
Hi April, just about an inch! The molds I use at .9 inches thick! 🙂
