Toby! Have you met Toby? He’s my little baby.
Ever since I bought these cute little dog treat molds, I can’t seem to stop making him cute little treats in fun little shapes!
Treat-making a great activity with the little ones too, and these make fantastic gifts.
Best Kind of Peanut Butter for dogs:
- All-natural peanut butter without added salt or sugar is best for dogs.
- Do not use light or sugar-free peanut butter, as those may have artificial sweeteners (such as xylitol) which is toxic to dogs.
- I like to use Teddy Smooth All-Natural Peanut Butter, which can also commonly be found in grocery stores.
Can Dogs Have Flour?
In short, yes. But flour can post an allergy to some dogs, and flour is certainly not a necessity in their diet, but rather is used as a binding agent in many treat recipes.
If possible, I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find at the grocery store.
Healthier Flour Alternatives for Dog Treats:
Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum
Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato
Storage
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Freeze for up to 3 months, removing them as you need them and letting them come to room temperature.
Dog Treats as Gifts:
- These treats make fantastic gift ideas and are perfect for giving in these little canisters!
- Treat-making and gift-giving is also a great activity for little ones, (with your assistance of course!)

Could you dehydrate these to make them last longer?
Hi Fiona, I am sure that would be possible, however I haven’t tested this myself so I’m not sure for how long and at what temperature, however I like to freeze them and then take a few out as I need to and let them come to room temperature. (Although my dog likes them frozen too, lol.)
I made these today for my dogs and they love them! It is super easy to make and puts your over ripened bananas to a good use! I will defiantly be making these again!

Hi Wendy! I honestly have never tried it so I don’t want to steer you wrong, I’m not sure how you would incorporate it, my apologies!

Hello
How long do these treats last as it has banana in? Can they last more than a few days ?
Hi Geoff! I would keep these for 3-4 days and you can freeze whatever you might not use, then take them out of the freezer and let them come to room temperature as you plan on using them. Have a great weekend! -Stephanie
Can I use regular flour for these? I hate to buy whole wheat just to make these. I don’t have much room here. Thanks for the recipe! I know my Gracie will love them!
Hi Dorrie! I would check out this short article before making that decision. Honestly it should be fine but there’s always a chance of allergies. Regular flour is included in a lot of dog treats already though, to help bind the ingredients together, so as long as your pup isn’t sensitive, it should be fine! 🙂
Hi! Thanks for answering! I might just see in the side of caution and get some wheat flour. I need some cookie cutters anyway. Thank you for sharing your recipe!
