Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie https://thecozycook.com/peanut-butter-banana-smoothie/ https://thecozycook.com/peanut-butter-banana-smoothie/#comments Mon, 14 Jan 2019 12:00:53 +0000 https://thecozycook.com/?p=23237 You’re just 4-ingredients away from this ultra-satisfying Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie. With a range of dairy-free options to choose from, this recipe’s got you covered!

A glass cup with a Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie topped with two sliced bananas with a pink and white straw.

There are far things better than the ol’ peanut butter/banana combo, and when they come together in this 4-ingredient smoothie, it’s definitely heaven in a glass.

4 Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter
  • Banana
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Milk- see below for substitution options

Overhead Shot of peanut butter, banana, milk, and vanilla extract for peanut butter smoothies.

Milk Substitutions in Smoothies

Soy milk, almond milk, and Coconut milk make great substitutions for regular milk when making smoothies.

Best Equipment For Making Smoothies

My first suggestion would be to use a NutriBullet.

  • This is the one that I have and it’s super powerful. It allows you to fully extract nutrients because it breaks down pulp, seeds, stalks, and skins so finely that you don’t even realize it’s there.

You can also use a good quality blender.

Cold Noodles in Peanut Sauce https://thecozycook.com/cold-noodles-peanut-sauce/ https://thecozycook.com/cold-noodles-peanut-sauce/#comments Thu, 07 Jun 2018 10:00:31 +0000 https://thecozycook.com/?p=23098 Savory chilled noodles smothered in a flavorful peanut sauce and topped with green onions and chopped peanuts. A perfect group side dish or meatless lunch!

Cold Noodles in Peanut Sauce

Do you know what the best thing is about this giant glass bowl of peanut noodle heaven? It’s all mine. (My husband doesn’t go for peanut sauce.)

About this Peanut Sauce Recipe:

  • I’ve tried several different peanut sauce recipes, but I always seem to go back to this one. There are so many out there that call for a ton of ingredients but I think it’s the simplicity of this one that keeps me coming back.
  • This peanut sauce is also an excellent marinade for grilled chicken! Stick the chicken on a skewer, grill it, and you have chicken satay!
  • Two of my favorite dinner recipes to make this sauce are chicken noodle stir fry and chicken noodle stir fry.

Ingredients

Peanut Sauce

  • Smooth Peanut Butter
  • Soy Sauce
  • Sriracha Sauce- optional, adds a little heat
  • Sugar
  • Garlic
  • Water

Noodles + Add-Ons

  • Spaghetti
  • Baby Carrots
  • Salted Peanuts
  • Peanut Oil
  • Green Onions
  • Sesame Seeds

How to Make it

  • Combine peanut sauce ingredients in a large bowl along with the carrots and half of the peanuts.
  • Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water.
  • Add to bowl of peanut sauce and use kitchen tongs and toss to coat. Sauce will thicken upon sitting and the noodles will continue to absorb the sauce.
  • Refrigerate for 4 hours.
  • Drizzle with peanut oil to loosen up the noodles prior to serving.
  • Transfer to a serving bowl, top with remaining peanuts, green onions, and sesame seeds.

Guys, meet Toby. Toby is my sweet little morkie who deserves to eat homemade dog treats all day, every day. Of all of the dog treat recipes that I’ve made him over the years, (including homemade dog cake), these might be his all-time favorite, because they’re packed with so many of his favorite things.

My inspiration for these began the other day when I dropped a big ol’ strawberry on the floor. Since Toby is my personal robotic vacuum, he polished that sucker up before I could even attempt to bend down and pick it up.

I panicked and grabbed my phone for what was probably my 50th random Google search that day: (more…)

Guys, how much do you just love your dog?! I think we can both agree that dogs are just the best.

Dogs are naturally just happy little beings, but put a slice of this dog cake in front of your furry friend, and they pretty much explode with excitement.

Bonus: Kids love making cakes for dogs. My 3-year old girl gets such a kick out of mixing the ingredients together in the bowl and watching it transform after it bakes in the oven.

My Dog Toby

My dog’s name is Toby. He’s our 6 year old Morkie (half Yorkie, half Maltese).

He finds himself torn between the two personalities of those breeds. He thinks he’s a hunter, but if he ever actually caught a squirrel I don’t think he’d have the slightest idea what to do next.

Tell me about your dog!

Can Dogs Have Flour?

In short, yes. However, flour can post an allergy to some dogs, so always proceed with caution and consult a vet if needed.

I recommend using Almond flour, because it’s healthy and easy to find. You can also use all-purpose or whole wheat flour.

Healthy Flour Varieties for Dogs:

Grain: Barley, Buckwheat, Millet, Oat, Pea, Quinoa, Rice, Sorghum

Non-Grain: Chickpea, Coconut, Hazelnut, Lentil, Potato

Optional  “Frosting” for Dog Cake

  • 1/2 lb. of cooked/peeled potatoes whipped with 1/2 plain Greek yogurt make a great frosting for this cake.
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter + 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt works too!

Best Pan Sizes for this Cake:

I have tried both of these options and find that either works well for this dog cake recipe!

Let’s get into some questions that you may have about the ingredients!

Can Dogs Have Milk?

  • Just like people, some dogs can digest milk easily and with no issues. Other dogs have trouble, or may be lactose intolerant. This resource goes into greater detail about that.
  • In short, be cautious about introducing new foods to your dog for the first time, and always consult a vet when in doubt.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup natural creamy peanut butter *See notes
  • 3/4 cup nonfat milk
  • 1 large egg or 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups Almond flour *See notes
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup oats (either whole-rolled or quick oats are fine)
  • 4 strips cooked bacon roughly chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325F degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, gently mix the peanut butter, milk, and egg together with a large spoon or spatula. Switch to a whisk to make sure no lumps remain. Add the flour and baking powder. • Using a rolling pin, roll the dough out into 1/4" thickness. Cut into shapes or insert into these dog treat molds (I love these)! Arrange on the baking sheets. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until very lightly browned on the bottom. Remove from the oven, and flip the treats to bake the other side for 10-12 more minutes.
  • Allow to cool completely before serving to your pup. Store at room temperature or in the
  • refrigerator for up to 1 week. Treats freeze well, up to 2 months.
